President Nominates New Ambassador to Israel

Jack Lew is a former Treasury Secretary.

President Joe Biden has nominated Jack Lew, who was chief of staff during President Obama’s administration and a former Treasury Secretary, to be America’s ambassador to Israel. Lew has also served as deputy secretary of state for management and resources and as the director of the Office of Management and Budget during both President Obama’s and President Clinton’s administrations. 

He has also been the Executive Vice President for Operations at New York University and was a clinical professor of public administration at NYU’s ‘Wagner School of Public Service. 

Lew said his goal would be to “build a more friendly rapport” with Prime Minister Netanyahu. 

He practices Orthodox Judaism. He is married to his high school sweetheart, Ruth Schwartz, and they have two grown children.
